This past August when I in Las Vegas for the apparel show, I came across YY Nation. I was immediately struck by the modern aesthetic and versatility of their collection. I had to go introduce myself to the guys working the booth!
As we began talking, I learned the company is based out of New Zeeland, the brand is a huge advocate for protecting the planet, and the shoes that really caught my eye, the Stratus Cactus Sneakers also have an incredible story to them.
Here is the lowdown:
The Stratus is part of YY Nation cactus court sneaker range. Crafted using natural materials extracted from shaving cactus plant nopales, reducing the use of harmful chemicals and petrochemicals that are used in conventional leather and plastic based materials. The cactus range is light and cool on your feet utilizing ‘Wood pulp’ Tencel™ lining that wicks away moisture and provides a cooling temperature regulating effect. The Tencel™ material has a silky-smooth feel while the cactus leather provides comfort and durability.
The Stratus Sneakers are insanely lightweight and comfortable to wear. They run a tad small, so you more than likely will need to go up a size. I love how these shoes look with shorts-especially the Parke & Ronen Actionwear shorts, and they look great with jeans and chinos too. After a day of wearing, they clean up very easily too.
